From 4 to 6 June 2026, the University of Trento will host study days dedicated to non-Latin chant and dance within the context of popular devotion in Italy. This initiative, organised as part of the ERC project LAUDARE, directed by Francesco Zimei and with scientific coordination by Cristina Ghirardini, represents a significant opportunity to explore crucial aspects of the dialectic between the body and ritual space, analysing how the classical performative heritage intertwined with the new paradigms of Christian worship.
Such reflections provide fundamental insights into understanding the functional continuity of dance as a means of social cohesion and its roots in the complex intermingling of the sacred and the profane: themes that are central to the multidisciplinary investigation pursued by the VOICING project regarding the sonic and spatial dimensions of the past.
