Professor Angela Bellia has been invited as a Keynote Speaker at the International Symposium on the Acoustics of Ancient Theatres (SAAT 2026), to be held at the Polytechnic University of Cartagena, Spain, from 25 to 28 October 2026.
This symposium, organised by the SEA (Sociedad Española de Acústica) and the EAA (European Acoustics Association), in collaboration with the Acoustical Society of Italy (AIA) and the Hellenic Institute of Acoustics (HELINA), serves as a premier international forum for advanced research on historical and archaeological sites.
During her keynote lecture, titled “Sonic Heritage and Heritage Acoustics: Towards the Preservation of Ancient Performance Spaces,” Professor Bellia will explore how digital technologies and acoustic modelling allow researchers to transcend the purely visual dimension of cultural heritage. Her presentation will underscore the imperative to restore a “voice” to ancient performance spaces, positioning Sonic Heritage as a critical dimension of intangible heritage that demands rigorous protection and valorisation.
