Professor Angela Bellia co-organised with Erica Angliker and Anastasia Gadolou, and participated in the major international conference Music, Dance, and Soundscapes in the World of Alexander the Great, held at the Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki (October 15–19, 2025). The event, co-organised by the Hellenic Ministry of Culture–Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki, the University of Palermo, and the CNR–Institute of Heritage Science, successfully explored the underexplored auditory and performative dimensions of the Hellenistic period.
Conference Highlights The conference fostered interdisciplinary dialogue through academic sessions, cultural activities, and field excursions:
- Opening and Keynote: Opened by Anastasia Gadolou, Angela Bellia, and Erica Angliker, featuring a keynote by Angeliki Kottaridi and a “Macedonian Dances” performance.
- Academic Sessions: Covered themes ranging from Sounds in Sacred and Ritual Spaces and Art and Artefacts to Music, Power, and Cultural Identity.
- Museum Engagement: Participants enjoyed a guided tour of the museum’s key exhibits and a live performance using a reconstructed auloi.
- Excursion: A full-day field trip led by archaeologist Konstantinos Papastathis to the Palace of Philip II, the Royal Tombs of Vergina, and the New Polycentric Museum of Aigai.
