Roberto Stanco is a saxophonist, string player (fidicen), tibia/aulos player, and composer. He began his saxophone studies under the guidance of Alberto Mariani and subsequently studied composition at the 'G. Briccialdi' Conservatoire in Terni under Marco Gatti.
Since 1991, he has researched the origins of music and musical instruments, performing on reconstructed ancient instruments both in Italy and abroad. As part of this research, in 1999 he co-founded Ludi Scaenici with Cristina Majnero, a research ensemble dedicated to the instruments and music of ancient Rome, with which he performs extensively across Italy, Europe, and in Singapore. From 2000 to 2026, he has been a regular participant in the Tarraco Viva festival.
From 2013 to 2018, acting as a specialist in the aulos and tibia, he was a member of the European Music Archaeology Project (EMAP), an initiative funded by the European Union. Through this project, he performed with Ludi Scaenici in Rome and Tarquinia (Italy), Galway (Ireland), Glasgow (Scotland), Ystad (Sweden), Valladolid (Spain), and Ljubljana (Slovenia).
In 2024, he was awarded the 'Comunicare l'Antico' prize by the Naxos-Taormina Archaeological Park in recognition of "his research into the instruments of ancient Rome conducted with Ludi Scaenici, an ensemble that has promoted and disseminated the knowledge of ancient dance and music for 25 years
